Trauma-Informed

Trauma changes people.

Healing requires a different approach.

Authentic

I cannot turn off this face!

I will be real & present and engaged.

Hopeful

I have this wild ability to find hope when your situation seems hopeless.

Social Worker.
Psychotherapist.

I started my post-secondary education at Brock University, where I completed an Honours B.A. in International Poliltical Economy. I then attended the University of Toronto, where I obtained a Masters Degree in Social Work, specializing in Diversity & Social Justice. Since then I aquired a certificate in Couple & Family Therapy from the University of Guelph and have since continued my professional studies in Trauma treatment and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

I like to travel and have spent time studying and working abroad in Europe and the Middle East. There are always a few books on the go to keep me learning.

Therapeutic Approach

Therapy is meant to support changes in thought, behaviour, mood and relationships.

I draw on Cognitive Behavourial Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy & Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT).  We will access whatever frameworks are going to be useful to you.

As a visual learner with an active imagination, I think more in pictures than words. I place a high value on psycho-education and am always dreaming up new ways to simplify and communicate abstract theories so they are more accessible for clients. My office is full of trinkets- the beloved Slinky Dog, the Funko Pop collection- all are intended for teaching.  I am very fond of drawing diagrams on the white board or screen-sharing during sessions. The more you understand the more in control you will feel. It helps if you laugh sometimes too :)

Sometimes you gotta be bold.

I am interested in dealing both with symptoms and with the roots of your struggles, but managing crisis is not the same as a typical therapy session.  The degree of urgency and overwhelm does impact the nature of the work we can do together. It's not easy to come up with creative solutions when you can't think straight. The more overwhelmed you are, the more directive I may need to be in order to help you get stabilized. Regardless of the intensity of your situation, our strategizing is collaborative. This is afterall, your life. However, when you need someone to help you come up with a plan and navigate the various systems, to orient you to this new reality and to do that quickly, that is crisis management, not psychotherapy.

Crisis appointments are subject to crisis rates.
